Andrés Amarilla
Although only 30 years old, Andrés Amarilla is celebrating 20
years dancing tango in 2007. As a child and teenager, Andrés studied with
and performed in the dance companies of legends Gustavo Naveira, Juan
Carlos Copes and Rodolfo Dinzel. As a young adult, he participated in
the creation of nuevo tango in closed rehearsals organized by Fabian Salas
and attended by Gustavo Naveira, Chicho Frumboli, Mauricio Castro, Milo
Quadros Smith, and other international stars. Andrés has performed over
70 times at Buenos Aires milongas, including 20 performances with the
legendary Geraldine Rojas.
Andrés launched his international career in 2006, leaving students in
19 cities marveling at his ability to make the most complex concepts and
movements accessible—even easy. Equally versed in “traditional”
and “nuevo” tango, Andrés teaches a solid, consistent movement
technique that works for any step, from the most simple walk to the cross,
to the most challenging colgada. And by sharing the tools and perspective
necessary to unlock tango's many mysteries and challenges, Andrés
helps dancers maximize their skills, expand their insight, and propel
their tango to new levels of finesse, creativity and enjoyment.
In 2007, Andrés will teach on three continents and reach students in
over 20 tango communities, including Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Belo
Horizonte (Brazil), Nicosia (South Cyprus), Ercan (North Cyprus), Istanbul,
Los Angeles, San Francisco, and many more. While Andrés will be teaching
on his own in Southern California this winter, he will tour the rest of
the year with his partner and wife, Meredith Klein.
